The Pixel 10 Pro is all hype and no substance... It has a flagship price tag, but the hardware is incredibly weak in comparison. Rendering videos on the Insta360 app takes forever, and the video lags and freezes ๐คญ๐๐. Honestly, it feels like it's on the same level as a Redmi phone thatโs 20 times cheaper. Please, just fix the hardware. Just use the Snapdragon Elite 8 Gen 5. Even if you sell it at a higher price, people will still buy itโbetter than having disappointed users feel ripped off by the price they paid.
I dont think this consider as a flagship, well yes it has some flagship feature the performance are really falling behind

The hardware shortcomings of the Tensor G5 mainly stem from its GPU, CPU, thermal design, modem, and memory architecture. Google made a critical mistake by using the **PowerVR DXT-48-1536 GPU**, which delivers only about 1.6 TFLOPS of compute power, has weak driver support, and poor Vulkan/OpenCL optimizationโresulting in underwhelming gaming performance.
On the CPU side, it still relies on **Cortex-X4/A725/A520** cores, which are outdated by 2025 standards and cause excessive heat and power consumption due to their high clock speeds. The **thermal design** is inefficient, leading to high heat density on a small die area and frequent throttling under sustained workloads. Additionally, the chip integrates a **Samsung Exynos 5400 modem**, which draws significant power and reduces overall efficiency. Finally, the **4ร16-bit memory bus** limits bandwidth, preventing the GPU and NPU from reaching their full potential. Altogether, these factors make the Tensor G5 a thermally inefficient chip that struggles to deliver consistent performance despite its promising specifications.

Funny how anyone can just pick up their phone and talk about stuff they know absolutely nothing about now๐คฃ
"The 4x 16bit bus limits bandwidth"
Now tell me, which phone SoC doesn't use a 64bit bus?
What's the channel width on LPDDR5?
Can't believe your picking on PowerVR either..... apple's GPU designs are PowerVR based...hell, they basically pioneered TBDR as a rendering technique
They did fall off and hence have a poor software stack...but what makes you think they have a weak GPU architecture?
Even your point about the CPU is only half right....the pipeline length and design of the Cortex X4 mean it isnt meant for โฅ3.4Ghz....ARM stated this
So that's a fault on their part

its more than enough, they made a huge improvement since last year and still its tsmc so no more thermal trhottle and other issues from samsung sh*t
Despite obviously qualcomm made they also a big improvement because they were afraid of competition , otherwise snapdragon 8 gen 4, would have the same scores.
Anyway I am going to buy it anyway just because it is a Pixel, and I only need Pixels, so i didn't care even if they still had scamsung processor, which is very bad, but I still can accept it for my use, am not going to do crazy gaming and content creator stuff. I also really like to have a very reactive phone, and the snapdragon
8 elite is something I really desire, but I think pixels are still more optimized and more reactive because of pixel experience stock rom, or aosp based roms, since its the only device you can definitely always mod with custom roms since its the phone from google. You can always very easily unlock bootloader and perform rooting, and other stuff. That is why its my best choice, otherwise I don't care about performance be the best. But it still got a huge improvement beside not having that crap of scamsung anymore so i am really happy this is the phone I want, and anyway aosp roms are extremely lightweight on RAM so I do not need any snapdragon 8 elite or apple A18 pro or 24 gigabytes of ram because I have a very reactive phone even if its very old it is gonna be more reactive than galaxy s25 and it is gonna last many years even of unofficial support from roms and i do not like personalization from phone brands, its just bloatware and I hate it, I only need pixel experience as a stock rom and aosp roms always available very easily contrary to most other phones, including oneplus, they are all difficult to get device trees and development even started, they are terrible. So most phones are absolute sh*t even with snap 8 elite i do not care its more powerful, the only best mobile phone is google pixel, long life to google pixels, i will buy pixels forever!!

The CPU Is at same level of Snapdragon 8 gen 3 or 8s Gen 4, the problem Is the GPU, of you go on the Website of Imagination Tecnology there Is an explaintion about the score of the gpu used on Tensor G5, it's a midrange GPU! It's has less Ray tracking compability and less tflops of flagship GPU of IMG technology (1,5tflops against 2.7tflops) so the G5 has:
Same CPU performance of Snapdragon 8 gen 3
Same GPU performance of Snapdragon 8 gen 2

Bro it supports bluetooth 6 but you are showing 5.4.
Google made their worst mistake partnering with Scam-sung for chip fabrication. Starting from Pixel 6, their modem tends to throttle, which pulls down the entire performance of the phone. It's astonishing that it took Google 4 years to realize Samsung is one of the worst when it comes to fabs. Nothing CEO once said Samsung's fab is so bad it would put our business to bankruptcy. TSMC would save them from thermals, but their CPUs are still underpowered compared to the competition.

Google teamed up with Samsung since they had no choice. They needed to learn how to fabricate a mobile SoC and Samsung was a great start, but not without bumps. Even Apple had to start somewhere, hence they teamed up with Samsung in early days to fabricate Apple chips. Apple used Imagination GPUs in the early days before they carried on and moved all SoC development in-house. Google will only get better year on year and design phones for their intended goal and not compete with other phones by raw performance.

And? Who really cares about peak performance other than enthusiasts? The average person doesn't need chips like these in a phone. To think that a chip is "primitive" just because the competition is better is silly. 99% of the time you won't notice between this year's mobile CPU and one from two years ago.
There's an argument to be made that some will use Pixel phones for 7 years, until it runs out of updates. But as someone who has used phones for 4+ in the past, I'd say that performance is generally quite good even years past a phone's prime.

I care about specs. You care about specs. But to the average person, it doesn't matter. If I handed you two otherwise identical phones, with the only difference being that their CPUs were 2 years apart, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in day to day use.

ryu, I'm going to disagree again. In Canada, I see Pixel phones fairly often. In fact, market share is 8%. That's fairly significant in the grand scheme of things.
In the USA, the market share is 3%. In Japan, I can't find exact numbers, but it's at least 8% and perhaps even as high as 15%.
Are these numbers massive? No. But enough *average* people buy Pixels. Brands who target enthusiasts have very little market share outside of select regions. I pretty much never see a OnePlus phone in the wild, yet they're always talked about on YouTube and enthusiast circles. Same with Xiaomi
You enthusiasts need to step outside your bubble and actually check out what's going on in the real world.

akp831, PowerVR GPUs are still being licensed and produced although they have shifted less from the mobile market due to low adoption and demand, into others like in the embedded and automotive markets. At least Tensor G5 and G6 will use Imagination's GPUs. It's somewhat disappointing because the original Tensor G4 was supposed to have the same GPU that the Tensor G6 will. I think the reason they will do this is that Arm GPU's albeit having great potential, have weaker ML performance compared to competing solutions. And also Arm will reportedly have price hikes so maybe Google is budget-constrained.
Yea but there have been driver issues with these IMG GPUs for quite sometime. The incompatibility of the Vulkan does limit their performance, not to mention that they struggle to run some, if not most of the 3D benchmarks. Hopefully its not the same with this one (DXT-48-1536).

Dr mujeeb hamidNovember 6, 2024 at 05:38 AM
For anyone asking why the score mentioned here i.e, (2267/5712) doens't match any leaked scores yet, or in other words, is too low, or for some it might even seem higher.
Reason it, it will score higher actually, but leaked scores are just 1400/4100.
One should also know, max frequency in that score was only 2.0ghz, compared to 3.4 ghz, so clearly device was running in battery saver mode, & at only 60% capacity, or even lower.
Comparison between 8gen3 & tensor g5:
Cortex x4 @ 3.3 ghz vs 3.4 ghz
5 Cortex a725 @ 2.85 ghz vs 5 cortex a720 @ 3.15 & 2.96 ghz
2 Cortex a525 @ 2.4 ghz vs 2 cortex 520 @ 2.27.
So clearly from above comparison, tensor g5 is a better chip.
(Some might say cortex a725 is clocked at lower frequency, well, that ain't true. Bcz cortex a725 scores 12 % more at same frequency than a720. That means 2.85 ghz of cortex a725 is equal to 3.2 ghz of cortex 720)
Now add another dimension as well, tsmsc 3nm is 20-25 % more efficient than tsmc 4nm.
So in all, tensor g5 will be a better chip than 8g3 by around 25 % in gaming efficiency & sustained tasks but in multicore scores it will just be around the same as 8 gen 3.
Exp Gekbnech 6 scores : 8 gen 3 vs tensor g5
Typical scores : 2100/7000 vs 2200/7200
Highest scores : 2300/7450 @ 11.3w vs 2375/7600 @ 8.5w
3w scores : 3922 vs 4600
(Note : @ 3w d9300 scored 3590 & d9400 scored 4360. That's a 20 % improvement. Consider also that Dimensity 9300 & 9400 used same 7 nodes, only difference was cortex x4 vs x5. They did use more frequencies as well, but their gain is at high scores only not at 3w point. What I wanted to say is that d9400 scores better bcz of tsmc 3nm nodes, which is used by tensor g5 as well ).
PS : in typical multicore score calculation, all the 3 chips, i.e, A18 pro, D9400 & 8 elite consume either 12w or even more.
So tensor g4 can still go above 8.5w to achieve more score, but there will be very minor gains. Only way they can have gains above 8.5w is if they use more L2 cache. But i doubt they will do so. If they used more than 16mb of L2 cache, then multicore scores will cross even 8000.
So u can't rule out a score of 2375/8100 as well. But it will realistically touch only 2375/7600.
