Please update the execution unit count for all Mali GPUs from Valhall 3rd Gen onwards. Which includes Mali 610, 710, 615, 715, 715 Immortalis, 620, 720 and 720 Immortalis. Each shader core houses 2 execution units. That means Dimensity 9300 has 24 execution since it has 12 shader cores.
As I wrote you in here https://nanoreview.net/en/soc/samsung-exynos-1480, it's just a matter of architecture differences and naming. It all comes down to how much shaders in total GPU have. "Shader cores", "Cores" and "execution units" can mean same of different things depending on arch and pipelining of gpu.

Guys, please answer me. I'm planning to buy the iQOO Neo 9 Pro (Dimensity 9300 version). However, when I compared the 9300 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, MediaTek was better at everything except one thing. I wonder what it is, and it's called Compute Score (GPU). In Snapdragon, its value was 8000, but in MediaTek, it was N/A. I wonder if this will affect gameplay because I play on emulators a lot, like Yuzu and Dolphin Emulator. Please answer, guys.

JayMay 18, 2024 at 04:15 AM
Hello, Raoufchafaa,
MediaTek processors have a very bad GPU. I strongly recommend you choose the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In emulation, even the Snapdragon 845 beats the Dimensity 9300, not to mention the king Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Ignore the internet comparison, score, or whatever. Snapdragon processors are the best for everything, especially for emulation. They simply perform like computer processors (for example, Nvidia, AMD).
I love emulators as much as you do. Also, I'm a very heavy gamer. My device is the Redmi Note 12 Turbo (Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, which is a beast in emulation). I've emulated tons of very heavy graphics games at smooth and stable fps; for example: PC, Tomb Raider (2013), 35-45 fps; Switch, FIFA 23, 50-60 fps at 3x resolutions; Switch, Resident Evil 6, 25-30 fps at 3x resolution; Switch, Bayonetta, 30-42 fps at 2x resolution; PC, Resident Evil 2 Remake, 24-35 fps; PC, God Of War (2018), 23-31 fps; PC, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, 25-36 fps.
No MediaTek processors and their family can perform as impressively as that. Even the so-called powerful Dimensity 8300 ultra struggles hard with PS2 emulation.
Once again, Raoufchafaa, please buy a device with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The GPU power is twice that of the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. Now, imagine how wonderful the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will emulate those games I just mentioned.

Jay, Bullshit, it's not about the hardware of the GPU itself but the lack of development and support on the software side. Gen 3 8 is better than 9300 on emulators but it has nothing to do with hardware.

SNVKE, it's not bs, its true but he did exaggerate, MediaTek does perform well with higher end emulation at a high resolution such as ps2, but at the end of the day snapdragon is better even though MediaTek is more powerful, and it's because lack of support SD is better than MediaTek for gaming and performs better with emulators, MediaTek struggles horribly with pc emulation gta 4 runs depressingly on a Mali gpu and on switch, some games run and some don't because switch emulation doesn't support Mali, SD even gets 10+ more fps in gaming outside of emulators

Fudge, Hi, FUDGE
So if developers support Mediatek Processors, then the processors are equal to, or maybe better, than snapdragon processors. Is that what you're saying? Well, you're very wrong! But Here is the fact: Snapdragon processors are better than Mediatek Processors. Especially Adreno clearly beats Mali. (Remember even if the software supports and is well-made, performance is going to be bad if the hardware is poor)
0Reply
JayJune 30, 2024 at 11:58 AM
GTWA, No exaggeration at all! No sentiment at all!! No subjectivity at all!! No prejudice at all!! All I did was nothing but underscored the proven, known, observable FACT
And I must state again:
Mediatek processors are bad at emulation not because of lack of developers support as you and some have argued but because of very poor Mali GPUs. Remember hardware and software are different. For perfect gaming performance, there must be balance between the two. Especially there must be balance between the CPU and the GPU and the software. Note video game consoles always feature (very) powerful GPUs, which's why they're able to handle very heavy graphics games. Therefore, Even though there's developer full supports for Mediatek processors in video game console emulators, like Yuzu emulator, It won't make any difference.
(You must know I got not special love for snapdragon processor nor do I got ill-will against Mediatek processors. Even I once used several mid-range and flagship Mediatek devices. And their gaming performance were good. But the truth Must be told!!!)

Jay, What a meat-rider, one way to know how good chips are hardware-wise is when both are compatible, supported and measured at software-level. Take Gfxbench for example, Immortalis G720 MP12 scales up better than Adreno 750 especially in the higher clock speeds (relative to their own architectures) both in 1080 and 1440 where the Adreno 750's power efficiency curve plateaus sooner (even in Vulkan tests where Adreno is supposedly better). MediaTek has really poor support for emulation and they don't open-source the required components of their processor so games aren't optimized for MediaTek. For example, Winulator, a windows emulator for Android, can run Direct X 11 games on Snapdragon processors but not on MediaTek. BB.

Jay, You're just a Snapdragon fanboy. I'm not saying that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is bad, no. It is good. But 9300 is more interesting than Gen 3 due to the fact that it does not contain energy-efficient cores. In addition, the 9300 is very energy-efficient (speaking as a user of Vivo X100 Pro). It works impeccably fast, runs the PS2 emulator great (the PS1 emulator even more so, but you donβt need much there), and Dolphin also runs great. I say with great confidence that you have never even held a smartphone based on Dimensity 9300 in your hands. I get great pleasure from using this processor. I can afford any smartphone now, Gen 3, Apple. But since the days of Dimensity 9200, I have been on the side of MediaTek. What they did with the 9300 deserves respect, a bold move to remove power efficient cores.

At the moment, I'm using a D9000 chip phone that's nearly two years old, and it remains incredibly fast. It has never frozen or slowed down during normal use. Frame drops in games are a rare occurrence since I don't typically max out graphics in most games. If the battery longevity holds up, I could easily see myself sticking with it for another two years. I ponder about how speedy the phones will be when they reach the D9500 model.

I'm only now figuring out why Asus and ZTE aren't exclusively using the Dimensity 9000+ chipset. It was, in fact, the first MediaTek chip that Asus used. Furthermore, ZTE opted for the Helio P70.
Interestingly, the Snapdragon chipset supports 240Hz, while MediaTek only supports 180Hz. Despite this knowledge, there are no companies still supporting these high rates; the highest refresh rates available nowadays are 165Hz and 144Hz.
+17Reply

That's because the average user would hardly notice the difference. Moreover, it would consume ridiculous amounts of power and it would be wasteful to spend money on such a screen when hardly anyone can discern the difference. Heck, most people can't even tell the difference between 120hz and 165hz.
Perhaps in the future, when 120hz becomes the norm for every smartphone, these companies will begin to shift to higher refresh rates.

This chipset is incredibly fast, but it's not widely known or used by phone makers because of allegations that it overheats. Currently, only Vivo and Oppo use it in some of their phones, and occasionally, Xiaomi includes it in their Redmi K series. No other phone company, not even Asus, utilizes the Dimensity chipset. Only two companies, Vivo and Oppo, make use of this chipset. Xiaomi mostly employs its overclocked version, as will the iQOO Neo 9, which will perhaps use this chipset in the future. This could potentially outperform the Antutu v10. Furthermore, the upcoming OnePlus Ace 3 series plan to use this chipset.

..., I'm assuming its a supply issue more than anything with the chip being better or worse. Because Qualcomm are still much bigger and have been around making higher end phone chips for much longer they can make commitments to Asus or Xiaomi or BBK or whoever to supply x number of chipsets for x number of phones.
You have seen this with laptops with AMD for a while, AMD laptop CPUs are usually as fast or better than their intel equivalent but much more efficient in terms of heat and battery life than intel. but the problem is the CPUs are not produced in high enough volume so it is quite hard to get a high end AMD laptop.
I suspect the same thing is happening with Mediatek as they are still smaller and are growing so cannot afford the big $$$ for fab capacity at TSMC or to make assurances to phone makers to supply their flagships, gaming phones, flagship killer etc with these chips.
And its a shame because even though Qualcomm has got their act together with making good socs again since the 8+Gen 1 and particularly the 8 Gen 2 and 3, the Dimensity 9200 and 9300 seem amazing in performance and efficiency and it would be great to see them in more high end phones. Or for that matter the 9400, 9500 etc. But they have to compete with Qualcomm's custom "Nuvia" cores by that point
