Scroll to the comments of this page: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc/mediatek-dimensity-8400 And search for a post that says this by "Important question" user on January 22, 2025: Is d8400 support ray tracing as when I check on many areas they tell that d8400 don't has important hardware to support ray tracing And read all the comments to understand it.

TL;DR if you don't wanna bother with reading them all though: In ARM's Valhall 4th generation GPUs (year 2022), Hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing was introduced. Mali-G715 is part of 4th gen. Only ARM GPUs configured with 10 cores will support Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and will be called Immortalis, otherwise when they have less than 10 cores, they'll be called Mali. Tensor G4's Mali-G715 only has 7 cores so it doesn't support Hardware-accelerated ray tracing. It might still support software-based ray tracing which will run on the CPU, I think.

I love how most of the comments on this page are mentioning TSMC. When Trump is imposing up to 100% tariff on TSMC. Oh well, Guess the Tensor G5 will be made by Samsung

I don't know why this processor have the heating and network problems ? Here Exynos 2400 give and excellent connectivity and thermal management , and G4 don't . Although both are made by samsung . That's why Google will go for TSMC next time .

With Google playing a major role in quantum computing with their sycamore processor, you would think their Tensor chip would outperform Apple, Media Tek and Qualcomm. Unfortunately Tensor has been a bust since it's 2021 debut and when you look at performance benchmark specs, the Tensor G4 lags far behind A18 pro, dimensity 9400 and 8 Gen 4. To say that Tensor was over hyped is a understatement which is why I'm not going to believe Tensor G5 will be anything special since it'll have to compete with A19 pro, dimensity 9500 and 8 Gen 5.

It doesn't have to compete with the next generation of processors it would be a miracle if it would compete at least with this one on the next one.

But it's strange, though. Even if they use the same process (Samsung 4nm), Exynos 2400 manages to provide much better scores in Geekbench. Sure, it's a 10-core, but still... I'm thinking Google chips throttle hard, like below 50%. Not good. Google, please use PROPER heat dissipation.

If I'm curious, the Google Tensor G5 SoC is said to use 3nm TSMC, can the performance be above SD 8 Gen 4, Exynos 2500 and Mediatek Dimensity 9400. Or is Google collaborating with Samsung to make a custom GPU with AMD?

Berry, It depends on their configuration. Even if they move to TSMC and use the new Arm core designs, there won't be a huge upgrade if they still use the common 1+3+4 CPU configuration. But, if they follow Arm's suggested CPU configuration of 2+4+2 using the new Cortex-X925, Cortex-A725 and Cortex-A520 cores then the Tensor G5 could really be a huge upgrade even if it's 10% weaker in benchmarks than the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Dimensity 9400 and Exynos 2500. Performance is not Google's focus on their Tensor chips anyway so I expect the Tensor G5 to not have high clock speeds but that's ok since even in gaming the cores don't even run that high. As for the GPU, I don't think that Tensor G5 will use Samsung's new GPU even if that will be used in the upcoming Exynos 2500 since their partnership is ended. They might use Arm's new GPU and that could go in two ways. They could put many cores like what they did to the first Tensor or they could cheap out like what they did to the Tensor 2, 3 and put only few cores. I think they made the Tensor G4 have only this small of an upgrade to make the next Tensor G5 look like a massive upgrade.

Well for be real that tensor series only tensor g1 are decent in release bc tensor g4 compared with the other socs like apple a17 pro, 8 gen 3, dimensity 9300, and even the exynos 2400 looks like a mid-range ☠️ exynos 2200 Get close to this tensor g4

Which midrange SoC gives an Antutu score of 1,700,000? Like the Exynos 2400 SoC. Most midrange ones give a high Antutu score; only the SD 8s Gen 3 SoC is around 1,490,000.

Google Tensor G5 is said to use 3nm TSMC, not yet known if the performance can compete with SOC Exynos 2500, MediaTek Dimensity 9400, and SD 8 Gen 4. Leaked rumors claim the Antutu score of Exynos 2500 is around 2 million 500 thousand. Whereas, MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Antutu score is 3 million 400 thousand, and SOC SD 8 Gen 4 Antutu score is 3 million.

Ahmad faisal berry, These "midrange chips" are only used on performance focused phones like Poco F/X series and Realme GT and sacrifice things like camera and software to make the phone cheap, regular phones like Redmi Note, Realme and Samsung A series use normal midrange chips, people really need to stop thinking every phone is a gaming one

Seriously in mid-2024, no support for 8k 60fps video playback and bluetooth 5.4. Insignificant improvements over the last one.

They literally launched a 2-year-old SOC. LMFAO! What are those scores? Also, it's basically the same as the Tensor G3, so what's the point? They may as well have launched nothing this year.

2 year old chil? So the x4, 720 and 520 arm cores are from 2 years ago? Every phone manufacturer that uses android uses those same cores so they must be using a 2 year old chip as well rite? The only 2 things being reused are GPU and TPU everything else is different. Even the GPU is clocked higher than last year g3 and the tpu is tasked with more things Ai related to do.
