Generally, but in this case, I'd go with Ryzen 7 6800H without looking back.

Ali, Why? The reason I'm asking is I'm deciding which Asus rog strix laptop to go for and one is r7 6800h and the other r9 6900hx.

Mark, It depends on the prices. more expensive for just a bit of performance is not worth it, generally, 6800h and 6900hx are more similar than different, If the price differences make sense in your region get the R9 if not you're better off with the Ryzen 7.
