A demonstration of raw power. (8 gen 3) September 21, 2024 at 10:52 AM
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the shader units; have you noticed that with every increase in shader units there is an increase in performance? Well, OBVIOUSLY!!!! The funny thing is that snapdragon 8s gen 3, 7 plus gen 3, 7 plus gen 2, 9 gen 1, and 8 plus gen 1, as well as 7 plus gen 2 all have the same amount of shading units. The only difference between them is that some of them are overclocked and some of them are underclocked (or undervolted) (with some exceptions being the 8 gen 1, which was developed by samsung, we dont talk about samsung). WITH EVERY increase in SHADING UNITS, ONLY THEN is the RAW POWER going to increase. Think of it like this, there was an increase in 20-30 fps EVERY TIME there is an increase in 400+ shading units, as seen with snapdragon 870, 8 gen 1, 8 gen 2, and 8 gen 3. BUT when theres no increase in shading units, as seen with the 8s gen 3, 7 plus gen 3, 7 plus gen 2, 9 gen 1, and 8 plus gen 1, as well as 7 plus gen 2, the only difference you will ever see is a 5-10 fps differnce, compared to the huge 30+ fps difference when it comes to shading unit increase. Im writing this so that people can begin to realize just how powerful these chips are getting, such as the 8 gen 3. YOU MUST focus on raw power, not those constant remake chips such as the 8s gen 3. The 8 gen 3 is hugely superior in terms of raw power.

Chill the heck out. It's obvious raw power increases. But not only because of increase in shader units but clock speed too. Raw performance is a result of multiplying clock speed by shader units by 2 (for fp32)

I think your information is all terribly wrong! First, the Qualcomm SM8650-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is completely separate from the version that starts with the letter C. The SM8650-AC, originally unbroken speed, was released last year and included in many devices. What is the version of the SM8650-AC? It included very few devices, which may not exceed 10 devices, and most companies have not used them in their devices yet, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Asus, Realme, etc. from giant phone companies, and I don't know the reason yet. However, there are companies that still release phones with the SM8650-AB processor that is not broken speed and is slow by more than 30% of the excellent and frankly beautiful SM8650-AC, because it is able to run PC games smoothly and on more than 70 very focused and stable frames such as GTA5, NFS and other games released after 2010. It supports Direct X12 as well. At the end of the article, I would like to express my thanks and love to ZTE in particular, and Xiaomi after it... I love you because you have created a digital smile on our faces.

Maybe at low settings 20fps, but ain't no way its hitting 60 on 8 gen 3, you probably haven't tried rdr2 which is their current best looking game of rage engine, it reaches 50-70%+ cpu usage on very high end 6c/12t ryzen 5600, amd gta 6 is definitely going to sweat them amd 8 core chip consoles. Resident evil ios ports on current very fast iphones struggles even with poor visuals. Even if you do get good fps, it will heat phone up in 5-10 minutes and start to throttle and bring you down to 12fps

darknight, GTA 6 will run well on 8 Gen 3 if the game is released for Android GTA 5 already runs at 25-36 FPS even on Snapdragon 870 Adreno 750 is more powerful than Apple A17 GPU If RE 4(2023) is ported to Android, the game will perform much better on 8 Gen 3 RE 2(2019) and RE 3(2020) already runs smoothly at 32-43 FPS on Adreno 725 (8 Gen 3 is a beast, even more powerful than some MId-range PC processors and PS4 and PS5 Processors. All you need is use a cooling fan, like I always do. And you convert 8 Gen 3 to PS5 Portable.)

Super amoled, It's entirely possible, Super amoled There's nothing that'll be special about GTA 6 that 8 Gen 3 can not CRUSH. 8 Gen 3 is mightier than PS4 and PS5. GTA 5, RE 2(2019), 3(2020), 7, 8; Horizon: Zero Down, Control, God of War(2018), Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice all already run smoothly at a playable FPS on previous Snapdragon chips like 888, 870, 7+ Gen 2, 8/8+ Gen 1, 8 Gen 2.

Jay, dear darknight has a point. We're talking a game that takes up over 100 gb of space, something that even RE4 can't reach. What also matters is the engine used in GTA 6. If we follow your suggestions for adding a cooling fan to a SD 8 gen 3 powered phone, it may be able to run Wuthering Waves (a game that uses up about 20 gb of space the last time I played it, but is much more graphics intensive than even GI thanks to using Unreal Engine) at around let's say 53 - 60 even on the highest graphics. To be honest, I don't even know the true capabilities of RAGE engine, but after doing some research on it's features and digging through Reddit for additional information, it seems as if though your suggestion for porting GTA 6 AS IS on mobile devices may be a nightmare come true.

Why is the GPU frequency of Snapdragon processors always low? Sometimes it's 770GHz, sometimes 680GHz, but never even 1000GHz. The frequency of MediaTek appears to be better than that of Snapdragon, reaching up to 1100GHz or 1350GHz - frequencies also achieved by Apple processors. And MediaTek isn't even as well-known as Snapdragon.

Gaming performance for the snapdragon 8 gen 2 is at 100? So this chip with a 25% boost in GPU performance, 30% boost in CPU performance, somehow has the exact same gaming performance as its predecessor? Very clear to me that nanoreview, is diminishing the performance capabilities of this SoC, because Qualcomm finally beat Apple, and their horrible, power-hungry, hot, inefficient chip. Which they "fixed" with software updates AKA, throttling the SoC, except for benchmarks. Which of course, apple sheep, will think that since the benchmark performance is the same post-software update, that, therefore means that Apple fixed the issue without having to throttle the performance capabilities of the SoC. Not realizing that you can throttle the performance of a mobile chip, whilst having it run at peak-performance during benchmarks, something that android companies have done in the past, leading them to getting banned from benchmarking applications like GeekBench.

The only issue I found with this website is the surprisingly low rating they've given for the battery life of Snapdragon 8 series, even though it has demonstrated considerable efficiency in real-time battery performance. The Samsung S23 even outperformed the A17 Pro, not to mention the A16 Bionic, in a multitude of real-time battery tests on YouTube, all utilizing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, both chipsets still received a rating of just 94.

It might be because they haven't tested it on Vulkan? Other SOCs have been tested on Vulkan, but this one hasn't, not sure why. Apparently, the snapdragon 8 gen 3 has had an 80% improvement on vulkan, so this chipset should rank significantly higher than the competition.

Why is the gaming performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 only rated at 99, the same as the A17 Pro? The Apple A17 Pro can run Genshin Impact at a resolution of 740p, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can impressively handle the game at 1220p. This resolution is higher than 1080p and more than doubles the resolution on the A17 Pro. However, it's capped at 30 fps and uses around 3.5 watts of power, which is remarkable. As such, it currently holds the title of the most powerful System on a Chip (SoC) in a phone. The Snapdragon also surpassed the A17 Pro in the multi-core test conducted on Geekbench 5, all while using less power than the A17 Pro. This achievement is remarkable, especially since the A17 Pro has been widely lauded as the most efficient chip. Yet, it failed to surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in both GPU and CPU efficiency. This raises the question: why is the A17 Pro still considered the most efficient?

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's GPU performs on par with an RTX 1050 at a frequency of 770 MHz. On Geekbench 5, the CPU scores higher than even the A17Pro in terms of multicore performance. However, the A17Pro only surpasses it in single-core performance. The GPU is the most powerful for a smartphone, offering enhanced performance while consuming only 8.5 watts of power.

Due to its ability to achieve over 30 fps on Solar Bay and Wildlife Extreme, it's the most powerful GPU in a phone.

Why has gaming performance decreased so much? Is it merely a placeholder for when people finally get their hands on a phone with 8th Gen 3?

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is constructed using TSMC's 4nm process and boasts an eight-core CPU, which includes one Cortex-X4 clocked at 3.3 GHz, five Cortex-A720s operating at up to 3.2 GHz, and two Cortex-A520s at 2.3 GHz. This new SoC notched a score of 2.13 million in the AnTuTu 10, showing around a 30% improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Additionally, it scored around 2300 for single-core and 7500 for multi-core tests on Geekbench 6.

@NanoReview, please update the Geekbench and Antutu scores. The Xiaomi 14 with SD 8 Gen 3 scored 2297 in single core and 7494 in multi-core on Geekbench. Also, the Antutu score was approximately 1.99 million.

The Nano review has been buggy lately. Moreover, the Xiaomi 14 has achieved a 2.13 million point score on AnTuTu. The 8th generation GPU has proven to be more powerful, scoring over 940k. It's disappointing to see MediaTek (as a MediaTek fan) with only 840K, but remember, it's just the beginning.

Where did the data for the Geekbench tests showing 7100 points come from? There was only one test for Samsung where it scored around 6600 points, wasn't there?

No, there were multiple tests conducted on various smartphones, including the Xiaomi 14. The peak scores reached were 2200 for a single core and 7200 for multicore. Concerning Samsung, it wasn't 6600, but rather 6800, and 6500 was specifically for the Exynos 2400 model. Typically, Samsung's multicore performance appears to be ill-adjusted.

1,800,000 points is really good, but I think it can be more than 2 million. The Redmi K60 Extreme edition scored around 1,700,000, so I believe Gen 3 could even achieve 2.3 million.

No, the information you've seen is based on old rumors and news. The rumors about SD Gen 3 suggest it will be 81% faster than its predecessor. Yes, 2 million will indeed be the score.

the CPU will be 1x Cortex-X4 + 5x Cortex-A720 + 2x Cortex-A520, while the GPU should be named Adreno 750 with 10 MB L3 cache.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (code name: Pineapple) will feature a 1+3+2+2 CPU configuration. The prime core has a frequency of 3.30 GHz, which is somewhat less than the previous generation Snapdragon flagship. However, the rest of the configuration is certainly impressive. The second cluster consists of three cores at 3.15 GHz each, the third has two units operating at 2.96 GHz, and the remaining two cores run at 2.27 GHz.
