The Snapdragon 8 Elite is overrated? It seems because is better than a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but still good, even know it's only gonna work for gaming phones, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, is 100% better

Overclocking a chip with more shader cores tends to show less of a higher percentage increase compared to overclocking chips with fewer cores, due to higher heat, power, and synchronization challenges.

The 8s gen 3 is quite new and lacks driver updates but overall it's not like the 8 gen 3 because it was made as a "new" version of the 8 gen 2 and also its more power efficient as the 8 gen 3 and 8 gen 2

Today they're both fine and dandy, the real test will be which one holds up better 3-4 years later, with respective softwares.

I see there is still sanity left in this site! People are arguing about this chipset and that chipset but for what! What matters is the efficiency, durability, and stability of the chipset because, at the end of the day, it's still a smartphone chipset! What the hell will you and can you do with it! Most people on this site, I assume, don't even have a PC of their own and use budget or mid-range smartphones. That's why they give value to a smartphone chipset! If you even have a decent laptop, crying over smartphone chipsets isn't fun!

I Know, I will be amazed if the latest chipset doesn't heat up above 38 degrees all new chipset are more on numbers who is the fastest but in real world usage tends to heat up easily ..

I Know, Sometimes I don't carry a laptop with me, so I have to solve issues using my tablet or mobile (not excel) fast and reliable multitasking is important in these scenarios, so there's that

I Know, I use my phone to its peak. Whatever it can do, I will make it do anyhow. That's why chip matters to me. I use phones roughly...any task any process at any time...my gasto be ready for me.

I Know, I still don't know why a person will spend lots of money on a phone for processor tbh. The only think atleast for me is the camera which makes sense since phones are more easy to carry. But even a dimensity 7300/ SD 7sgen 3 is enough for other purpose. Offcourse a faster storage speed/processor is always appreciated but editing on phone just seems a bit weird atleast to me.

So, the Gen 8 is significantly better than the Gen 8s. However, since I'm somewhat new to these topics, I'm trying to understand it better. Would it be correct to say that the Gen 8 ranks among the best flagship models, while the Gen 8s would be considered the best among common phones, or perhaps as a base standard for flagship models?

To me it looks like that 8s Gen 3 is underclocked 8 Gen 3 with smaller cache + weaker GPU. Good enough for many years to come and as good as last year best flagship SOC like 8Gen2 / D9200+

Fadd, It's all about the priority that suits your need. Price is definitely the main factor above all; if price is not a factor then go for the best of the best of that time. When price is a main concern then it branches out to all the different needs that come with the price. For 8sGen3, it definitely falls in the flagship but is the lesser one in its class. It has more than enough processing power & memory speed, a very capable GPU to play every game on the market but may need to tune down the settings from max if fps is affected a lot by the game but it seems it hardly would. The price is the prize here. You don't even have to worry. It's like having a good V8 at a bargain but worrying too much about the V12 out there. The compromise is not crucial at all; it's just like the same chip but underclocked a little that you hardly would notice at all.

For those who dont know April 11, 2024 at 08:52 AM
The 8S Gen 3 is a lower model of the 8 Gen 3, with notably different core nodes. As you can see, the 8S Gen 3 has 1x Cortex x4 high-performance core clock at 3 GHz - now the standard frequency for highly-performing chipsets in 2024. It also includes 4x A720 performance cores at 2.8 GHz, which maintain app stability and operations, especially during gaming. Additionally, it has 3x A520 efficiency cores clocked at 2 GHz. The function of these cores is to reduce the reliance on performance cores, which use a significant number of amps from your battery, especially when using social media apps. The key difference between the 8S Gen 3 and 8 Gen 3 is that the latter has improved performance. It's comparable to the difference between an i9 14900 (which cannot be overclocked, much like the 8S Gen 3) and an i9 14900KS (which can be overclocked as long as thermal throttling is not an issue). In terms of core setup, the 8 Gen 3 has fewer efficiency cores and one additional performance core, which clocks significantly higher than the 4 performance cores on the 8S Gen 3. If we move on to the topic of GPUs, the 8 Gen 3 GPU is superior in the smartphone universe in 2024, particularly in the gaming smartphone category. The GPU clock speed is not particularly relevant in smartphones, unless comparing rival GPUs such as the Intel Arc A750 vs NVidia RTX 3060. However, this doesn't present any close competition. The Adreno 750 significantly outperforms the Adreno 735 in shading units, core counts, and Giga Flops per second. In summary, the 8 Gen 3 leads the 2024 Android flagship pack, being one of the best Android flagship options, alongside the Mediatek Dimensity 9300.

What's up with the higher GPU clock speed in the 8th Gen 3? It's 1100MHz.

The probable cause of the lower shading unit could be that Qualcomm is pushing its speed.

Yes, the Adreno 735 indeed has a high clock speed. However, if you take a look at the total shaders process, the Adreno 750 exceeds it by twice as much. The total shaders are essentially the smartphone equivalent of CUDA cores. Comparing 1280 to 3072 is simply no match.

This suggests that the Adreno 750 in Gen 8 3 should be able to overclock at the same rate or even higher than the Adreno 735.

Ramdhan, No, the opposite is true. Overclocking a chip with more shader cores tends to show less of a higher percentage increase compared to overclocking chips with fewer cores, due to higher heat, power, and synchronization challenges.
