Is it worth paying an extra $70-80 to get a laptop with an i5 1235u processor instead of a Ryzen 5 5500U? Laptop with single-channel 8GB RAM.

No, it's not. They will provide you with a very similar performance so I thinks it's not worth it.

I got an HP laptop with Ryzen 5 5500U a few months ago, direct from HP for $470+sales tax. Now HP wants $699 for it. Yesterday I found a new/opened Acer laptop with Intel i5-1135g7 on Craigslist, for $225. Both have 8GB RAM. Purchased that Acer today. Will compare them. Installed Xubuntu on both.

I got the i5 one on Dell Latitude 8GB 256ssd, however, the performance of iris and i5 gen 11 really bad in my experience. For example when I use zoom, WhatsApp, and edge, the "low resources" warning in zoom appears, making the sound come out bad. Anyone got the same experience, I'm still infuriated about it.

If you on battery saver this could be causing the issue because the laptop keeps going to lower clock speeds. I had this happen on an older laptop and by moving the slider 1 up from the battery saver did the trick.

I'm gonna work for 4k Video Editing. I need to buy laptops under budget. By considering overall ratings and performance on battery, clock speed, frequency whether intel i5 11Gen or ryzen-5 (5500u) which is better?

For Video editing, you have to consider more factors than the CPU alone. CPU, RAM SSD, and graphic cards all count. Just compare between CPUs, based on the core number and frequency of the CPU the 5500u seems a better option. remember, the modern video software is 64bit and multicore supported. on the other hand, if you've found a laptop setup with i5 1135g7 with more RAM like 32GB and Ryzen 5500u with 16GB RAM. Then, i5 definitely the option.

Mostly depends on workflow 15 August 2022 04:07
Depending on your workflow either laptop would be the better option. Intel has the single core speed crown among these 2 chips, but Ryzen has better multicore performance. Intel is not as efficient as AMD so if you plan on using on battery a lot you might consider this. AMD has a far superior iGPU and better drivers if you plan on playing some esports-type games. Intel has thunderbolt so if you want to plug a thunderbolt GPU into it you can for better gaming and/or GPU-heavy workloads. There are ups and downs to both these laptops, but really for most things nowadays either will be sufficient.

The 5700u does have more grunt but with only 8GB ram it would not be great for things like video editing. I would suggest the 5500u version with 16Gb ram. But if you can upgrade the ram on the 5700u version, later on, it would be better. But out of the box, the 5500u with 16GB ram would be better.

AMD has achieved 7-nanometer technology vis-a-vis 10 nanometers of intel, however, close scrutiny of the above numbers clearly pronounces intel's superiority over AMD. (7nm with 6 cores is misleading). Go with "intel core i5 1135G7"

Make sure to look at other sources other than this site. Both are almost the same as their rival counterpart (It's like comparing Iris Xe 96EU with RX Vega 8) Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoevNcGmEPQ It's important to note benchmarks and real-world are quite different, and i5-1135G7's higher single-core clock makes up for that difference. AMD has their drivers are better than Intel's (i.e intel's new igpu drivers are more likely to crash) Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD5_KOR7CGY

I would go with better processor any day than more RAM. In fact both goes hand in hand. But did you even stop to think 5.9gb usable RAM is because it's been used by the Graphic processor. How funny!
