I'm contemplating whether I should get the i7 as, within my budget, it is significantly superior. However, I value upgradability and don't want to have to purchase an entirely new motherboard.

The 14700K has poor upgradability, but it definitely won't bother you for the next 7-8 years. My old 8700K is still going strong, and I won't need to upgrade until at least the 17700K or 18700K, for sure.

7950x has more threads good for multicore work load and have to get less bothered by the CPU temp anyway 14700k is heating machine
