Despite Kirin 980 being a 3 yo SoC it still outperforms and gives competition to recent 2021 SoCs such as the 7XX snapdragon series, for the price tag of Kirin 980 devics (mate 20, p30, nova 5t, honor 20) they are cheaper than the Nova 9 (778g) and most 7XX devices, of course you won't get features such as 5G support, newer android versions and support but from the rest these devices are still so good till this day.

Nova 5T released 2 years ago this month and was half the price of today's midrangers, while it can still compete in almost ever way from performance, camera quality to battery life. I wish Huawei still had google because it was nearly topping at the path to be untouchable, but I wouldn't call them dead with Harmony OS and new chip production in range.
