Marketing and Greeding, I think. It's very convenient to give an old CPU a frequency uplift and sell it as a current-year chip.

In real time this is the difference between these chipsets: For gaming The helio G85 might have a higher frame rate at first, but as the gaming session gets longer, you might notice a drop in FPS and possibly even freezes at times and the battery will be draining at a very quick rate, Meanwhile the Snapdragon 685 would have a bit less fps in the beginning but would keep being stable throughout the whole gaming session and it would be very hard to push it to drop fps or freeze, It would not drain the battery as fast as the helio G85 and in specific circumstances, it can even outperform the helio G85 in frame rate permanently.
