D8400U is good in gaming. Who said its capped to 4cores in gaming? It can work simultaneously when needed by the system. It as All high performance cores which is very efficient. It automatically adjusts its frequency depending how light or heavy task is running. Also it runs cooler vs the predecessor.

Dimensity 8400 ultra comes with "all big core" technology...Cortex A725 saves such more energy compared to hungry X4..also all cores are A725, meaning excellent thermal management despite being 3.25 peak. Also better GPU for dimensity...so...Dimensity 8400 wins but sd 8s gen 3 still takes a punch for sure!

Higher graphics settings and intense gaming for 3 years? Go for X7 Pro. Maybe a slight reduction in gaming but 5-7 years of custom updates and better camera? Go for F6. Should also mention that X7 pro supports only 30fps in front camera video recording where F6 supports 60fps. Of course price plays a good role here. F6 costs less from where I am making F6 the obvious better choice.

Please go for F6 or, if you can, go for F7. Don't buy X7 Pro. I have been using it since its launch in February. It has very bad performance in gaming, it overheats a lot, and the battery, even though the numbers are large, works like a normal 4500 - 5000 mAh. For other tasks, it's okayish, but for gaming, please stay away from it. I am regretting my decision to go with it. I will be changing it soon.

For Genshin Impact, X7 Pro works better, but for everything else, F6 is better choice. This Mediatek Dimensity 8400 Ultra is performing worse than few years old Dimensity 1200 in UI, browsers and other apps. And like Aman said, the battery drain is very big in X7 Pro in both idle and in Genshin. I also feel like it had 4500mAh battery, not 6000mAh. Btw, I'm not favoring Snapdragons, I'm using Mediatek chips since many years and I liked their older chips, but what they did with 7xxx & 8xxx Dimensity series, it's very annoying.

Compared to the 8300, this new Dimensity chipset sure is good. It could've benefited further from using a cortex X3 as a prime core, but then MediaTek would just be shooting themselves in the foot if that happens since that would give the D8400 the opportunity to ram right through the 8 Gen 2 based on raw CPU horsepower alone, something I personally don't think a mid-range SoC should do when compared to a flagship one.

Efficiency: 8400 is slightly efficient in power saving Conclusion: both soc are good with same price range But I have choice then I will go for sd 8sgen3 or 8gen 3.. But as compared to 8300, 8400 is better in terms of heat control

404, No, the 8s Gen3 outperforms in long term because of open source drivers. It can be updated with custom firmware and also overclocked if that's the stuff you want. The 8400 will need to replaced after 5+ years or less dependent on usage.

MTK is powerful but due to it's close source devs will have a hard time optimizing customizing it i own both MTK and SD phones SD still get supports from devs have more graphics settings options from modern games and get Custom Roms even after few years passed On the other hand MTK ur stuck with less settings cuz the phone doesnt get update and no custom roms available it is what it is it's like youre left with a piece of metal after 3 yrs

Precisely. If MTK starts providing open source chipsets then it can actually have people consider it over Snapdragon for long term usage. MTK provides good VFM for their chipsets and the raw performance is also solid. But the close end chipsets can be a major deal breaker

tempayy, We do have DORA (Dimensity open resource architecture) meant for that purpose though. Been around since the D8100 or something but still the closest option (unless you all mean open source in terms of GPU drivers in which case it's an entirely different story)

Putting a G720 Gpu in a mid range is a absolute win for many people. It's the advance version of high end GPUs where in 8s gen 3 the gpu architecture is old as it's used the same gpu model of 8+gen 1 haha. This time Mediatek surely did a good job. Even the api versions are modern in G720

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 outperforms the Dimensity 8400 in several key areas. The X4 core is superior to the Dimensity 8400's A725 core, and the instruction set is better on 8s Gen 3. The ISP in the Snapdragon is also more advanced, though not highlighted here. While the Dimensity 8400 excels in benchmarks and GPU, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 leads in single-core performance, crucial for gaming. Additionally, Snapdragon phones support GCam, which the MediaTek Dimensity cannot. Although the Dimensity 8400 is competitive, Snapdragon's developer ecosystem and overall performance make it the preferred choice, signaling where MediaTek must improve.

Tech nerd, 8S gen 3 uses last year's ISP. Who TF uses gcam? Single core... Yeah. That's one area MTK doesn't want it to scream "flagship". Overall, these are just minor things. Telling me the 8s gen 3 is better is like telling me the 8 Gen 3 is more powerful. WTF?

Tech nerd, This is definitely a Qualcomm fanboy comment. How did you know the ISP of the 8s gen 3 is better? Have you done a professional test? Have you checked it yourself? The single core on the 8s gen 3 may score better in Geekbench, but it's not as efficient as the A725 core in the 8400. Ask geekerwan! You Qualcomm fanboys just make things up to make MediaTek look bad. But it won't work! I'll still buy a MediaTek phone, no matter what!

You're just a typical fanboy., Dimensity fanboys, calm down! I'm not entirely against Dimensity processors, but most brands prefer Snapdragon due to its long-term stability. How many brands currently use the Dimensity 8300, and how many will adopt the Dimensity 8400? The reason is simple: most developers focus on Snapdragon processors, which results in custom ROM support, GCam compatibility, and more. MediaTek needs to improve its processors beyond just paper specs and benchmarks. While Dimensity may be theoretically better, real life performance requires more data. I'm not a Snapdragon fanboy; I support what's true. As a matter of fact, I own an X100 Pro with a Dimensity 9300, and I've experienced its throttling issues firsthand. Previously, I used the Nord 2 with a Dimensity 1200, and despite being a MediaTek Dimensity supporter, I acknowledge that it needs significant much more improvement in real life performance.

Tech nerd, True, dimensity is better on paper but in reality optimisation is where they fall back compared to sd, I saw a comparison on trakin tech english between f6 and X7 pro where x7 pro scores better in almost all benchmarks except stability (obviously cortex X4 takes the lead) but when it came to real life genshin impact avg fps, the difference was huge. 59 fps on f6 and 54 on x7 pro. 8400 ultra had terrible drops. Even developers in android mostly prioritise sd more than mediatek be it any game or app

Tech nerd, Bro in what you said above, who said that Gaming is better with a Prime Single Core? Do you think that Prime Core is forced to run all the time while playing the game? Where did the importance of the rest of the M cores go? Another look at the Cores Architecture, 8s has 3 E cores, A720 4 M cores, X4 1 P Core. On the other hand, no E cores bro, not even a single E core anymore. Adding 8 of ARM's latest A725 M cores means that demanding games can be run efficiently without the need to increase the clock speed with improved IPC. Isn't this one of the key area that can provide more than needed performance in gaming as an upper midrange SoC, bro?

Ricky , Buddy, the 8 Gen 2 is a bit outdated. At this point, If they're after Custom ROM, GCAM support, and high-tier app optimization then the SD 8 Gen 3 serves them well. If you're looking for a more cost-efficient alternative and are willing to sacrifice developer optimization for more or less the same levels of performance and efficiency, the D9300 serves as an option B. In the end, everybody has the right to choose which phone they buy to satisfy their needs. Just because you think Snapdragon is better or Dimensity is better doesn't mean you should force them to do so.

JKO, Ok, Even the Dimensity 8300, which many consider powerful, is not widely adopted by brands. Let's see how many brands will opt for the new Dimensity 8400. Brands are not foolish for choosing Snapdragon over Dimensity, despite Dimensity processors being cheaper. The reason, as I mentioned earlier, is that MediaTek processors, although good, still lag behind Snapdragon. They often create hype before launching a new processor, but in reality, Dimensity processors throttle and heat up excessively. I can attest to this, as I'm still using the X100 Pro, and it's terrible when it comes to gaming and video editing performance. Only the Dimensity 8200, which is budget-friendly, has proven stable. However, even that processor lacks developer support. Let's not fight here; accept the truth. As consumers, we should demand better, not just hyped things. I wish MediaTek will improve in the future.

My goodness, look at this! Look at this mess between the two biggest Android SoC fanbases. Even a midrange Dimensity chip that's proven a major upgrade from the last gen D8300, they'll just find ways to make a huge fuss out of it. I won't disagree with the fact that MediaTek has a lot of work to do with their chipsets, but please remember they can only optimize the hardware itself. The main issue, like you all said, lies in the software level from both the app developers and from the phone manufacturers. No matter how powerful a chip is, if it's paired with such a crippled system and little to no support from devs, then it's all gone in smoke. I fear this is the very mentality that will drag us all down 😔

Tech nerd, Bruh, who said MediaTek doesn't support GCam? I am using GCam on my Dimensity 8300, 700, Helio G99 with no problems. GCam works; don't listen to this guy. He is a Snapdragon fanboy, and he's lying. MediaTek Dimensity does support GCam, and yes, about the kernel source code—the company is responsible for releasing it to the public, and blame ARM for not giving open-source drivers. I am neither a MediaTek fanboy nor a Snapdragon fanboy. I just wanted to clear the confusion and rumors spread by some Snapdragon fanboys.

Dark, I advocate for truth and compromise on nothing. Even if Snapdragon chips perform poorly, I'll criticize them coz, as a consumer, I demand the best. If others can achieve excellence, why can't MediaTek? They create hype but often fail to deliver real world performance and efficiency due to cost cutting measures on their chips. Don't assume I'm a Snapdragon fanboy; I'm not. I urge you all not to blindly support any brand, but instead, support the truth. Don't compromise on quality and don't think emotionally. As consumers, we deserve the best, not mediocre products. Let's not make excuses for subpar performance, saying it's just a mid-range processor.' That's not our problem it's theirs.

Khaos, Yeah, this year, a lot of phone brands are gonna use Dimensity 8400, e.g., Realme Neo 7 SE, iQOO Z10 Turbo, etc. So, after an update in Poco X7, they will optimize the Dimensity 8400, and PUBG and BGMI will run at 120 FPS. We just have to see, after the update, which phone runs at better FPS: iQOO Neo 9 Pro or Dimensity 8400 Ultra. That's why I am waiting to buy Poco X7 Pro.

Tech nerd, I have a genuine question, When I open Call of Duty Mobile with phone equipped with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, The 'Max Graphics' doesn't even show, Then again when I open it with a equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Still the 'Max Graphics' option just wasn't there, But when I tried with a phone equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, The 'Max Graphics' option was there. I was surprised, I thought does Snapdragon Chips even support 'Max Graphics' or not, Then to finally do a one last attempt, I opened the game with a phone equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and to my suprise, The 'Max Graphics' option WAS THERE. In a Nutshell: - Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 = Max Graphic setting unlocked is 'Very High' - Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 = Same as Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 - Dimensity 8400 Ultra = Max Graphic setting unlocked is 'Max' - Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 = Same as Dimensity 8400 Ultra My question is: If Snapdragon has better optimizations for games and game developers optimise their games for Snapdragon better, Why is the Max Graphic Setting locked on Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2? But unlocked on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 8400 Ultra. I think the saying that 'Snapdragon has better optimizations for games' is outdated now, Because games just see what the chip is capable of, They don't care about the brand, So basically Dimensity 8400 Ultra is better than Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2. And before someone says it might be because Call of Duty might have some kind of partnership with MediaTek or something like that, I checked it's nothing like that. However, This was a genuine question from my side, Hope I get a answer...)

MASTER, Regarding your question, my answer is that the Dimensity 8400 GPU is undoubtly good, and it has a powerful GPU, which is why you get max graphics unlocked from the begining. However, when it comes to developer support and future optimization, most developers always prioritize Snapdragon over Dimensity. Mediatek's Dimensity processors have good GPUs, just look at the pipeline in it, which Snapdragon's GPU only has two, but due to developer support, it performs better in the long run. Despite having a good GPU, Dimensity processors struggle after some time, and MediaTek's cost cutting measures also make Dimensity processors struggle in the long run. It might change in the future, but for now, Snapdragon, being an american brand vastly use by many smartphone brands, always gets preferential support from developers. Lastly, I want to emphasize that I have no hatred towards MediaTek or Dimensity; I'm just stating the facts as I see them. As somone from the tech field and an engineer myself, I have personally tested and verified the points I mentioned above. Lets hope more brands adopt Dimensity 8400, so it gets better optimised. Unfortunatly, Dimensity 8300 didnt get much support from brands, hopefully 8400 will be diferent.

Tech nerd, You mean they will wear out and become slow or game will lag afterwards? Because right now games run smoother on MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra than Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Do you mean that after 4 Years, The games that used to run smoother on Dimensity 8400 Ultra will start to become laggy and be smooth in Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 or Gen 2? I am confused so much right now, According to you, Under ₹30,000 [$343], What should I buy: POCO X7 Pro with MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra OR POCO F6 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Every website or comparison shows that MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra is better but people say still go with Snapdragon, What should I do?

MASTER, First of all, I'm answering here for the last time!!!! And about MediaTek processors, I'm using the Vivo X100 Pro, and most games are not playable as smoothly as they are on same-year launched Snapdragon processors. This phone throttles and heats up, and this is always the case when I've purchased a MediaTek processor phone, and this is all due to MediaTek's cost-cutting measures which are clearly noticeable. And lastly, bro, I'll say here, don't go for Poco or any Xiaomi phone. Wait a little and buy the iQOO Neo 10R with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 instead if you want a good gaming and camera and an all-rounder phone. And one piece of advice: don't update it after six months of purchase. Just keep your apps updated and take some precautions while using the browser. This is because every Chinese brand deliberately reduces performance through updates after six months, mostly. For at least three years, your phone will last. Based on my personal experience. Take care, buddy. And to all guys, please don't think emotionally and support the truth always.

Sure the D8400 is behind the 8s Gen 3 in several aspects, both big and small, but then again it won't be noticeable in normal day-to-day usage will it?

And yeah u will always need BUFFER FIX module to make gcam work smoothly on 8400 .. it'll always he laggy inside the gcam ui and whatsapp scrolling.... MediaTek has many limitations. SkyFX, More GPU pipelines mean better parallel processing and higher performance, especially for heavy tasks. GPUs with only two pipelines can still work well if developers support is best, but extra pipelines provide more power and future proofing, also it consumes extra power. Don’t try to act over smart here , SkyFX. The problem with guyz like you is that you all just can’t digest the fact that Snapdragon perform better. MediaTek always overhype and fools people with benchmarks before launch. 8400 is good but not best.

Tech nerd, Tech nerd, “look at the pipeline in it" alone tells nothing. You can’t compare Mali vs Adreno that way, they’re completely different architectures. What actually matters is shader count, clock speed, bandwidth and driver quality, and in those the 8400 comes out ahead with more shaders, higher frequency and higher FLOPS. You tossing out “pipelines” just proves you don’t understand GPU design. It's just buzzwords trying to sound smart in a room full of dumb people. In sustained gaming, that big core is a liability. X-cores have terrible FPS-per-watt compared to a bank of efficient A725s. X-cores heat up, trigger throttling faster, and don’t contribute much once the GPU is saturated. A full-blooded A725 cluster is actually better for real-world gaming than a mixed-core SoC. It gives you consistent high-performance threads without the scheduler wasting cycles juggling tiny, medium and “hero” cores. That means smoother frametimes, less thread migration overhead, and steadier sustained performance. By reading all obove - You’re an obvious Qualcomm fanboy that refuses to acknowledge the 8400 wins. You talk like someone clutching their 8s Gen 3 and trying to convince yourself it’s better, even when the 8400 literally outbenches it in GPU and multicore. Pretending pipelines and single core make it a gaming godsend just exposes you.

SkyFX, The 8400 is pathetic. MediaTek hypes Dimensity like it’s some braekthrough, but in reality it’s thermal throttling trash with zero0 developer support. I’m not even waving Qualcomm flag, I use a Diimensity 9300 right now and I had the 1200 nord 2 before. Both were disasters. Nw here’s the kill shot, Adreno is a fully custom GPU, built with advanced tile-based deferred rendering, superior shader compiler efficiency, deeper execution pipelines, and optimized driver stacks that scale across games and emulators. Mali/Immortalis? Just generic ARM reference cores with poor ALU utilization, weak scheduling, shallow pipelines, memory bandwidth starvation, and instant thermal collalpse under sustained loads. Adrenno sustains higher FPS, better frame pacing, and lower power draw, while Mali melts into frame drops and stuutter within minutes. Even on CPU, Snapdragon’s better cache hierarchy and sustained thermal design keep performance stable, while Dimensity chips throttle down to midrange behavior. And dev support? Snapdragon gets kernel sources, GPU driver updates, and thrivving ROM communities. MediaTek? Dead on arrival. So keep defending your undercooked toaster GPU, it’s hilarious watching you cry over silicon that the entire tech wolrd already treats as second class garbage. Keep barking now , try hard to defend So called MediaTek

Tech nerd, You went from "8400 is good but not the best" to "8400 is pathetic". Stop using ChatGPT to write your responses, the lack of any consistency and style here just exposes you even further lmao. "Generic ARM reference cores" it must hurt to sound that stupid. You keep buying MediaTek devices, and you allegedly own one, yet you claim they suck. Something isn't adding up here, the consistency - I know this one, I smell a generic Qualcomm fanboy who can't confess MediaTek is actually good (and cheaper). You want to talk overheating? Lmfao! Look at the 8 elite! Every phone with it has horrible throttling and sub 50% GPU stability. In-house designed SoC and it's a fire hazard. Let's not forget 888, gen 1, - even the 8s gen 4 while we're at it lmfao! So we get to look at a consistent problem with Qualcomm: SD 8SG4 are STILL on last year's "generic" A720 cores - when A725 was the biggest efficiency leap in A7xx history! iQOO Neo 10 running Genshin on 48.5c lmao! It's not even a heavy game anymore! Cost cutting A720s while charging a 100€ premium over MediaTek counterparts. That performance you get in benchmarks won't even reflect in games for more than a minute - at best! I'm sure the indian heat won't help you any lmao. See? I can back up what I say - you just pull it out of your ass with textbook jargon generated in ChatGPT. You're pretty dumb to even bring up that thermal argument to begin with - just proves you know nothing. And it's the same old "custom ROM" when almost every OEM by now have locked down bootloaders, so see you soon crawling to Google/Tensor pretty soon with MediaTek GPUs inside that still works perfectly with custom ROMs. I'd argue it's the biggest custom ROM devices around - no issues. Oh btw, Mesa (who develops custom drivers for Adreno) has no interest in Adreno 8xx - so no custom drivers for you! Nice alt over, nobody crawls through 35+ comments on a month-old thread just to say "I read all your comments top to bottom bro" unless it’s you arguing with yourself. You even recycled the same "MediaTek crap, overheats, regret buying" script word for word. So keep using A.I and alts to give yourself a pat on your insecure ass. A participation trophy is in the mail to you. Please don't cry too much about it. Maybe Qualcomm will send you some sticker packs too.
