8+gen1 still outperforms dimensity 8300 as cpu is way better in 8+gen1. Gpu is almost same but 8300 wins in a marginal score in antutu gpu. However 8+gen1 is more powerful.

For me, the 8300 Ultra on the Poco X6 Pro heats up pretty quickly even when not playing games. Then, in CODM, focusing on the sniper is not very smooth.

Berg, Regarding the drivers, I think we all may have been barking up the wrong tree the whole time. Sure MediaTek is in charge of the CPU part of their SoCs, but the GPU part however? A quick search and it should tell you exactly who to blame for the whole no custom drivers situation

I wonder how the long-term usage is. I bet Snapdragon will win since the 8300 was so overclocked, especially made by Poco, which is really bad in hardware. Probably the same fate as X3 PRO.

The Dimensity 8300 score seems to be carried by its memory score, probably due to its newer UFS 4.0 and LPDDR5X. Raw performance wise, they are on par. The 8+ Gen 1 seems to be slightly slower in GPU (most games are CPU bottlenecked) and multi-core. But it is noticeably faster in single-core, and most importantly, sustained performance. Also, it has a better modem. My verdict is, the 8+ Gen 1 deserves to be placed on top of the D8300, as this site ranks the SoC based on CPU, gaming (probably GPU), and battery life, not memory.

The weakest area for the 8300 Ultra is its single core performance, even though it is above average. All other aspects look quite good. There is literally nothing to complain about at this price point!

I am eagerly waiting for the release of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 anticipated by the end of this year. It is well-known that the SD 8 Gen 3 and DM 9300 are already quite powerful, processing everything thrown their way with ease. Thus, it is expected that their successors will be even more powerful. However, what's crucial is their efficiency. Both are slated to be manufactured using the 3 nm node, whether by TSMC, Samsung, or another manufacturer. I'm particularly curious about how impressive the Oryon core, which the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be using, is in comparison to the reliable Cortex X5 produced by ARM. Regardless, I believe that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 will be immensely powerful. I'd guess they will easily achieve a score of at least 2,500,000 on Antutu, if not better, and hopefully reach around 2700/2800 in single-core and potentially 9000-10,000 in multi-core on Geekbench. As I've emphasized, however, what truly matters is their efficiency. No matter how powerful these chips may be, that power means little if they do not also offer power efficiency and avoid excessive throttling.

Rumors also suggest that the 9400 would be powered by an NVIDIA GPU, at least an equivalent of a 3060 GPU, but it would use ten times less power. Meanwhile, the 8400 would use a customized MX450.

thunderpanda, This is true, though. MediaTek collaborated with Nvidia for GPU. The Dimensity 9400 is their first creation and rumors say that it is way more efficient yet more powerful than Dimensity 9300+ by four times (or maybe more). Time will tell, so let's wait.

I believe they're the same. I've done some research on Google and found absolutely no difference between the Dimensity 8300 and the Dimensity 8300 Ultra. Similarly, I found no distinction between the Dimensity 7200 and the Ultra version of it. I suspect it's just a marketing strategy employed by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

To the best of my knowledge, the Dimensity 8300 Ultra is the result of a collaboration between Xiaomi and Mediatek, so the D8300 Ultra is exclusive to the Xiaomi brand. Literally speaking, their power levels are identical (correct me if I'm wrong).

PeeCee, More than just a sleek marketing strategy (the name "Ultra" seems to suggest nothing more than a similar SoC), what's remarkable is that MTK allows them to modify their SoC. It's unclear what exact changes Xiaomi has made to this and other "Ultra" models. The only notable feature of the "Ultra" series is their impressive stability and an absence of throttling issues, but that's about it.

The labels "Ultra" and "Pro" used in MediaTek Dimensity's naming convention often signify a more optimized version of the processor. The D8100 Ultra found in the Mi 12T tends to perform more stably and better than the standard D8100. This improvement is particularly noticeable when comparing it to devices like the Realme GT3 Neo.

Bla, Bla remember that 8+ gen 1 is more than a year now meaning the devs of our favorite games like codm, pubg, genshin impact and etc are now more stable than dimensity 8300 because those devs already done optimizing and fixing issues that occurred in 8+ gen 1 in the past unlike 8300 where it still takes time to optimize since it's still new

The leap from SD 7 Gen 1 to 7+ Gen 2 is notable. I assume MediaTek chose a similar approach from the 8200 to the 8300. I'm guessing the jump to the 8400 won't be as significant.

Honestly, it didn't live up to its hype. Many people thought and hyped this product to be on par with the 8 Gen 2, but it's not. It's in the same ballpark as the 8 Plus Gen 1. The only difference is the memory. However, when it comes to the CPU, GPU, and optimization, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 takes the win.

It would be stupid to be as good as SD 8 Gen 2 since it will basically shoot Mediatek in the legs for their future releases. They still need to make new stuff and sell new stuff, the 8300 is already as good as it is. It's a response to 7 + Gen 2 and it has done its job.

I share the same sentiment. Qualcomm should forgo revamping their Snapdragon 8 flagship with a 'Plus' variant and instead focus their attention on utilizing 95% of the previous-gen flagship for the upper-level mid-range Snapdragon 7+ series. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 was expected to be a significant success for Qualcomm, had the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 not existed and proven to be a superior overall chipset at a not significantly higher price.
