Obviously the Gen 5 is better, but the Gen 4 was such a massive leap over the Gen 3 it'd be tough to justify the Gen 5

I think the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 4 is powerful enough for long-term use and cheaper than 8 Elite Gen 5. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 are some minor upgrade CPU, GPU clock speed and modem.

The snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 has some severe overheating issues, people are already complaining like crazy avout their OnePlus 15 overheating, probably due to the fact tgat the prime core is 4.6Ghz on an older 3nm node, thats crazy, also the 8 Elite Gen 4 beats the 8 Elite Gen 5 in long sessions of hard work at times

The 8 Elite Gen 5 was developed at the limit of 3nm. Surely 2nm would have been more suitable for its design.

I already saw the review of 8 elite Gen 5 VS 8 Elite (Gen 4) on gaming. TLDR: SD 8 Elite Gen 5 is just a little bit better, for only β‰₯ 1 Watt better. in other comparison, the performance difference of SD 8 Elite (Gen 4) VS SD 8 Gen 3 has a huge gap. So yeah, SD 8 Elite is still a pretty solid choice in terms of budget wise.

no, I'm speaking as 8 elite owner, the gpu of this processor has an overly tdp, in order to make it at the level of the 8+gen1 that I had before, I had to cut the frequencies from 1100 to 900, when trying to work with its maximum power almost instantly the temperature of the cores go beyond 100 Β°C due to the laptop level tdp and the phone crashes. If in elite gen 5 they fixed the problem with power consumption it will make it at least a third more powerful in games

SD Elite Gen 4 is still better than 8 Elite Gen 5 in real life usage because it is more mature and the apps develop for 8 Elite Gen 4 is more mature for optimization that means more performance, efficient and stable which translates for better user experience. Although 8 Elite Gen 5 shows better Antutu numbers, but in real life, Antutu score doesn.t matter in usage experience.

That's not at all true, and that is not how it works. By that logic, the 8 Gen 1 should be faster than the 8 Elite Gen 5 because it's older and even more mature? That's just silly.

santiagobbboff, It's not guaranteed tho. Transistor size hasn't been shrinking for years now. 2nm is just a marketing jargon, the actual size is closer to 12nm. Until ASML done their research for High-NA EUV, I don't think SoC will get significantly better in the near future.

I'm never upgrading unless the turnips and a significant difference in real emulation games are shown. I have both 8 Elite and 8 Gen 3. To be fair, I mostly use 8 Gen 3 for emulation like Winlator and Switch. It gives me very balanced quality, performance, and stability. I post on YT and TKTK often, and I use my 8 Elite for tests as well, for Dolphin and some Winlator games and some PS2 games. If turnips come, I'll upgrade to 8 Gen 7, maybe 6.

Especially since there are no concrete rumors surrounding a price increase. Why so upset about an incremental increase in performance over a processor that never got to stretch its legs? I want to see that 16 MB L3 cache pan out. You needed a nuclear reactor to power a cooling system sufficient enough to even sustain peak performance. I'll probably get ratioed anyway...
